Re-imagining Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli

About Llandysul a Phont Tyweli-Ymlaen and the Aberystwyth University town regeneration project.

We at Ymlaen are passionate about Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli, and more importantly the people. We want to help the area and people thrive. Re-imagining Llandysul as a connected, vibrant small town is a community – led project focussed on bringing together culture, economy, and well-being to help shape the future of Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli. The project has been brought to us by Aberystwyth University.

The project will be run by our project co-ordinator Gemma Jones, born and raised locally from near Betws Ifan until the age of 9 and local to Llandysul from then onwards, with young children being raised in the area now, Llandysul really is and has been for a long time at the heart of my life, which makes me feel passionate about the project and making sure it makes a positive impact. Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli Ymlaen Cyf is a community organisation based in Llandysul.

We are funded by the UK Government through the Cynnal Y Cardi fund and aim to enable Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli’s community to access essential services and social opportunities.

We will be holding events for you come to and share your thoughts and opinions on how to support and shape the future of our community. See the Events page for the latest information.

If you cannot come to an event, we also have a questionnaire to fill in - there are no wrong answers, this is an opportunity for us to hear your voice!

Aims and objectives

  • We would like this research project to tie together the Llandysul and Pont-Tyweli community, by listening carefully across all the ages, backgrounds, and communities and making sure their experiences, ideas, and priorities are clearly reflected in future plans. It explores everyday life in the town centre, Welsh language and culture, wellbeing, and practical ways of bringing new life in to underused spaces.
  • The project was selected because of its strong place-based focus and its commitment to putting community voices at the heart of regeneration.
  • We intend on holding 8 unique facilitated events, to gather a wide array of info from a spectrum of people of all ages and backgrounds in the area. The idea is to document aspirations, fears and what people want to see from Llandysul in the next 10 – 20 years.
  • We also want to leave behind a legacy, leaving the information in accessible ways to the community, be it through videos, podcasts and any other material created along the way.
  • We really hope that this process will set this project apart with this distinctive process and look forward to meeting you all and hearing what you have to say.
