2021 Walking Weekend

Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th September 2021

Walkers walking uphill in woodlandBelow is the programme for our 2021 Walking Weekend.

When you come to book on the walk you will need to confirm that you have read the Information below and will need to complete a Covid-19 Self Declaration on the booking form. You will also need to do this at the start of the walk.  We will keep your contact details for 21 days after the end of the festival for Track and Trace purposes.

Information

  • You will need to book a place on the walk. 
  • Walks are priced at £4 per person per walk booked in advance or £5 on the day.  There is no charge for children under 16.  The price of walks covers all administration and transport where necessary.  Closing date for bookings is 22 September.  No refunds can be made for cancellation after the closing  date.
  • During the walk, we ask that you keep a safe distance from each other, unless they are a member of your family group or bubble.
  • Please bring hand sanitiser for mini bus, gates, and styles.
  • Please bring a face mask to wear on the mini bus.
  • If you feel unwell before the walk, do not come, but please contact the office on 01559 362403 or on the day, or let the walk leader know that you are not coming.

  • Sorry, there are no Dogs on these walks. 
  • Walking boots, warm and waterproof clothing to be worn on all walks.
  • Rucksack with water & snacks are recommended. On longer walks there will be a lunchbreak.
  • Walks are either: Fairly Easy - for anyone without mobility difficulties or Moderate - for people with good fitness level, includes steep paths, open countryside, brisk pace.
  • Walk leaders can refuse to accept any walkers considered to be inadequately equipped.
  • The programme may change in unforeseen circumstances.
  • Participants are advised to arrange their own insurance to cover any loss, damage, accident or injury to people or their property, as Llandysul & Pont-Tyweli Ymlaen cannot accept responsibility.

    Friday 24th September, 5.45pm
    1. "From Paupers to Postmen"

    Llandysul historical guided walk. Fairly Easy.

    A guided town history walk with Llandysul Local History Society, looking at those who lived and worked in the area around Lon Wesley and Charles Street in the 19th century.
    The walk will take about 1.5 hours, and there is one uphill climb from the car park.  Fairly Easy.  
    Handouts available for people who wish to follow the walk at a distance from the main group.
    Finish at the Porth Hotel for refreshments or supper (book directly with the Porth for a meal 01559 362202).

    2. Capel Iwan Circular Walk

    8 miles. Moderate

    Meet at Llandysul car park for bus transfer.
    8 mile circular walk – moderate walking country lanes, crossing fields with minimal road walking.
    Starting from Capel Iwan toward Cwmcych and onto Cwm Siencyn before crossing the road at Llwyndarian to Cwm Pedran, crossing the river Cych at Pantlleuci before following the river Mamog back to Capel Iwan.

    3. Afon Ceri

    Approx 7 miles. Moderate.

    Meet at Llandysul Car Park for bus transfer. 
    A lovely and what feels like a more remote walk which starts at St Cynllo’s church in Llangynllo and passes through a number of valleys to reach the Afon Ceri, a tributary to the Teifi.  Ups and downs, forest paths, views from the tops and rivers in the bottoms.  A varied and interesting trail. 
    There is some clambering where the path has been blocked; some wet patches so sturdy shoes recommended; please bring waterproofs, lunch, drink with you; no dogs please.  
    This is a linear walk so the bus will drop us at one end and collect us at the other.

    4. Children’s interactive history walk

    2 mile walk

    Start at Y Porth's riverside terrace at 10am. 
    Walk suitable for Children aged up to 11 years old. 
    Must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. 
    Historic walk starting at the 17th century coaching in Y Porth, leading through St Tysul's church in Llandysul Memorial park returning to Y Porth for light refreshments.

    5. Prengwyn Walk

    About 4 miles. Moderate.

    A short journey, through the medium of Welsh (suitable for learners of all abilities).
    Start from the Gwarcefel Arms car park, Prengwyn at 10am. 
    The exact route and length of the journey to be determined on the day depending on the  weather conditions at the time, but likely to be no more than 4 miles and go towards Pant Y Gogle, down to Blaencwm Cadifor and back to Prengwyn.

    6. Plasgeler Walk

    6 miles, Moderate

    Meet at Llandysul Car Park for bus transfer. 
    Walk from Capel Pen-Rhiw cemetery at Drefach Felindre,  proceed to Llangeler through ancient woodlands and minor roads; learn about Llangeler historic "holy water" well and the Estate of Plasgeler.
    The walk continues along the Teifi river, to Pentrecwrt, to Allt Cafn and back along to Llandysul. If Teifi is low we will be fording it, and coming into Llandysul from the Bancyffordd road, down through Pontyweli - so BRING a TOWEL, if the Teifi is too high at the ford, then we will walk back to Llandysul along minor road to Llandysul centre.
    Please bring a packed lunch, sturdy walking boots and clothes for inclement weather. Bring a Towel.
