Ieuenctid Tysul Youth
Project Information
Ieuenctid Tysul Youth (ITY) is
a voluntary youth organisation and registered charity based here
at the Tysul Youth Centre, Llandysul. The organisation was established
in 1995 following a community appraisal which highlighted a lack
of provision for young people in the Llandysul area.
The building was transformed
from Peniel Wesleyan Chapel to purpose built Youth Centre with financial
help from the Big Lottery Fund, The Tudor Trust and Ceredigion County
Council. The project took four years to complete and cost £261,000
in total.
During the last 8 years, our
purpose has evolved to provide a wide range of education and support
services to young people aged 10-25 years. The main focus of our
work is to support young people through the transition to adulthood – from
dependence to independence.
What we offer is a valuable service
in an under resourced part of Wales. We work towards improving the
quality of life and range of opportunities available to young people.
The organisation is managed by
a dedicated committee made up of local people, all of whom have the
best interests of young people at heart. We employ six trained part-time
staff and we are always grateful for the support of volunteers. We
provide an evening youth club, a daytime drop-in facility for young
people not in school, and a minibus ‘pick up and drop off’ service
for those living in the satellite villages.
Our work hinges around personal
and social development and we are guided by the Youth Work Curriculum
for Wales. We work with the Statutory Youth Service and take part
in activities with other youth groups, local community & environmental
projects and volunteering projects further afield. Young people are
encouraged to participate and to be actively involved in decision
making processes. Whenever possible we provide a bilingual service
and young people converse in which ever language they choose.
We are a member of Wales Council
for Voluntary Action, Youth Cymru, CAVO (Ceredigion Association of
Voluntary Organisations), Ceredigion Youth Organisations Forum and
Llandysul & Pontweli Ymlaen.
For further information on what
we offer, volunteering or, joining the Management Committee, please
