Julian Wormald, Moth & Butterfly Expert

Julian and Fiona Wormald, who both trained at Cambridge and established and ran a veterinary practice in Bristol for many years, have been restoring a derelict Welsh longhouse and barns over the last 16 years, and creating a garden around them to complement its wonderful position in the North Carmarthenshire hills. For the first time this year it is opening under the NGS scheme (see NGS website for details).

About 7 years ago Julian started photographing moths ( and butterflies ) which visit the garden, and this resulted in Fiona and Julian producing the UK's first DVD-ROM devoted to garden moths just over a year ago, as well as an exhibition of images of garden moths which has already visited both Aberglasney and the National Botanic Garden of Wales. Julian will try to persuade those not familiar with the diversity of the local moth population, that these often hidden treasures in our gardens are worthy of greater appreciation by all who garden.
